GoalFlow

Goals, milestones and an assistant. The API and the chat are built. The interface is still being finished.

A closed notebook and a gold pencil on a pale desk

GoalFlow is a personal goal tracker with an assistant in the thread, not a task list with a chatbot glued on. A goal has milestones. The assistant is asked about the next step. Free, Premium and Pro are the planned tiers. This is a product in progress: authentication, goal and task records, and the AI chat exist; the screens are not done.

Solutions

  • A goal is a sequence

The record is the goal, its tasks and its milestones, not a flat to-do. Progress is how far along that sequence the person is.

  • Ask about this goal

The chat is attached to the goal. Rate limits and the auth middleware sit in front of the model, so the assistant is not an open proxy.

  • Freemium, stated as tiers

The plan is Free, Premium and Pro. The assistant starts on a hosted model. A private model is a later step, not something the app claims today.

Process

  1. 01

    Account

Sign-up and sign-in go through the API. The mobile and web clients share types with the backend instead of redeclaring the goal.

  2. 02

    Write the goal

Create and edit the goal and its tasks. The dashboard is meant to show the progress of that goal once the interface work catches up.

  3. 03

    Ask

The chat call is a normal authenticated request. Limiting is server-side. The model does not see a request that skipped the account.

  4. 04

    What is not finished

The screens, the error states and the last of the assistant’s wiring in the client are still open. The page says so because shipping the API is not the same as shipping the product.

Technology

  • React Native, and a web build

The client is React Native with Android, iOS and a web target. Redux holds the client state. Screens, components and API services are split the usual way.

  • Node, Postgres, Redis

The API is Node and TypeScript: controllers, services, models, auth and validation middleware. PostgreSQL is the store. Redis is in the stack next to it.

  • OpenAI behind the service

The assistant is an OpenAI chat from the backend. The client talks to GoalFlow’s routes. The key does not ship in the app.
